Development Blog #5: "Static" / by Xiaosong Shang

Hello everyone! Sam Martino here.

It is hard to believe Static is almost finished, the programming has come a long way when not even two months ago all I had was an apartment building that you couldn’t even navigate through since the doors didn’t work. I finished UI stuff this week with all the menus, I think they came out really well.

Not only that, but the save system is fully functional to the point where everything saves automatically as you do it, and I have fully tested it, I haven’t run into any issues with this at all. Now that the save system is done, that was the biggest hurdle I had to cross. Pretty much the entire game is finished at this point, I only need to add in audio and the horror elements. We now have both end states fully functional so players can actually get through the entire game now. To give an idea of how massive the functional save system is, this is a shot of a fraction of the variables that needs to be called:

I get to spend the rest of my week working on the horror elements now as well. I hope that I can go through many iterations over the next few weeks so I can find what is going to fit this setting perfectly. I expect demos to finally go out on Friday!

As always, please reach out to me at smartino@dogwoodgaming.com with any comments or questions. I always love hearing from you guys!
