Development Blog #3: "Static" / by Xiaosong Shang

Hello everyone! Sam Martino here.
So last week I said we’d be able to get to details this week, well... Kind of.

I did finish a big part of that list, the basic rain and HVAC sound effects are in an actually change in volume depending on how close you get to the sources. For example, if you’re right next to a window, the rain will be much louder than if you are in the middle of the building.

I also fixed the HUD text! It was pretty easy I just wasn’t using wrap text properly, but its usually simple fixes to most problems I’ve had to deal with.

What held me up this week was that I got the interactive consoles working. The player can now read what is on purple consoles that will give clues to puzzles and give a bit more backstory to what is going on in the building.

Once this was working, I set out to fill out the building with all the necessary terminals that are needed. Because there are so many consoles, at least 5 times as many doors I had to program, it is taking me awhile. However, I have full faith this will done mid-week, and then I can go back to tackling the rest of the to-do list:

  • -  Create the ability to search objects and add keys through this way

  • -  Create the Static

  • -  Basic jump scares

  • -  Create the pause menu and main menu

I’m really excited to share my ideas for what the Static will look like, but if any of you have suggestions please feel free to let me know!
